Students who complete the two-year program at Lake Land College are awarded an Associate Degree in Applied Science. Students learn about John Deere’s diesel engine systems, powertrains, hydraulics, machine setup, and adjustments, as well as high-tech precision farming systems, electronics, schematics, diagnostic computers, and computer-assisted resource materials. Professors deliver a personal, hands-on approach to meeting the needs of their students.

With any sponsoring student, AHW offers a Tuition Assistance Program and a Tool Assistance Program. The tuition assistance program offers up to two (2) years of tuition assistance in exchange for two (2) years of full-time employment upon graduation. The tuition amount is based on the tuition rate at Lake Land College for in-district tuition. We also offer $5,000 worth of tools during school, with the opportunity to purchase them for $1 after three (3) years of full-time employment.

Where Do I Start?

Apply at AHW by filling out an application online by clicking Apply for Ag Tech below or speak with your local Store Manager or Service Manager. AHW typically accepts 1-2 new students at each of our locations each year. If you are selected, AHW will extend an offer and you can begin the process of securing your place in one of the program schools. AHW will also offer you the ability to start part-time while you are still in high school, or you can begin employment when you start college in the fall.

The John Deere TECH Program at Lake Land College is specifically designed to advance the skill level of new John Deere service technicians. Program participants are prepared to excel in today’s high-tech, fast-paced field of agricultural mechanization –a career path with excellent opportunities. Students learn in an environment that stresses a balanced rotation of classroom theory and hands-on labs outfitted with advanced training aids, plus the latest ag equipment and resources.

Plus, participants gain valuable, practical insight and real-world experience by applying what they’ve learned during paid Supervised Occupational Experiences (S.O.E.) at AHW LLC – an excellent opportunity for students to “earn while they learn.”
